On Tuesday, May 2, Fairborn Schools will have a small, 1.7 mill bond issue on the ballot.
Issue 6 will NOT increase taxes!
1.7 Mill Bond Issue for FCS
This will NOT increase taxes, because collection would begin in 2027 when an existing 2 mill bond expires. This allows the schools to finish the current community building projects - the right way.
This levy is critically important as it will finish our current building projects. Due to inflation costs, the district had to cut non-academic items from the original project scope, but these cuts did not impact the core academic areas of the new school. This returns those items to our community project and finishes the job, the right way.
KEY FACTS
Due to inflation on construction and labor costs since the passage of the original Bond Issue in November 2020, Fairborn Schools will have a 1.7 mill bond on the May ballot. It will NOT increase taxes.
Collection will begin in January 2027, when the existing 2.00 mill bond expires.
If we pass this now, our projects will be completed by August of 2024, finishing the job and doing it the right way.
The district had to cut non-academic items from the original project scope, but these cuts did not impact the core academic areas of the new school. This returns those items to our community project.
How will this bond be spent?
$10 million - Items that were cut from the original budget: Softball fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, turf practice field for the band, indoor activities/training facility
$6 million - Material Alternates: (quality of selection of materials to extend the life of the building) upgrades in flooring materials, ceiling materials, technology enhancements $3 million - Allocated for inflation and pricing increases: Increases on basic items that HAVE to remain in the project either way
$5 million - Set aside for later middle school construction: This ensures quality for the middle school project, which will pair with the money received from the State of Ohio's building program
